This structure was a three story, three family dwelling looking more like a tower than a family apartment. It is believed that before the cliff dwellings were built in caves, the puebloans were a farming society, living on the mesa tops and in the valleys. But due to ever increasing raids by war-like, nomadic people, the peaceful farming community began to abandon their mesa top homes for the safety of constructing homes in the caves.
Note the stone and mortar bench and water basin built into the ground floor.
These were unique to this room and may have been used in various ways.
