In nearly all of the areas where cliff dwellings were located under a cliff, the area behind the rooms were usually used for a refuse or trash area. The cliff dwellers also kept some of their turkeys penned up in here.
When a person died, burials were usually made outside the dwelling when the weather was warm. During the winter when the ground was frozen outside of the cave, burials were made temporarily inside the caves.
